COMPTON, a parish in the first division of the hundred of GODALMING, county of SURREY, 3 miles (S. W. by W.) from Guildford, containing 423 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Surrey, and diocese of Winchester, rated in the king's books at £ 15.4.Qf., and in the patronage of J. M. Molyneux, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. Nicholas, has a low tower and spire, and a curious chancel with a groined roof and a chapel over it; these portions are in the early style of English architecture, but there are others of decorated character.
