COMPTON (FENNY), a parish in the Burton- Dassett division of the hundred of KINGTON, county of WARWICK, 5 miles (E. by N.) from Kington, containing 572 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Coventry, and diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, rated in the king's books at £15. 8. 4., and in the patronage of the President and Fellows of Corpus Christi College, Oxford. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. Sir Henry Bate Dudley, a comic writer of some note, was born here, in 1745; he died in 1824.
