COMPTON (NETHER), a parish in the hundred of SHERBORNE, Sherborne division of the county of DORSET, 2 miles (W. N. W.) from Sherborne, containing 458 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, annexed to that of Over Compton, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Dean of Salisbury, rated in the king's books at £7. 18. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas.
