CORTON-DENHAM, a parish in the hundred of HORETHORNE, county of SOMERSET, 4 miles (N.) from Sherborne, containing 469 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Wells, and diocese of Bath and Wells, rated in the king's books at £ 13. 9. 4., and in the patronage of E. B. Portman, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Andrew. Some workmen, in 1723, discovered a Roman urn in the vicinity, containing about two quarts of coins, in good preservation, of the emperors, from Valerian and Galienus to Probus.
