COTTINGHAM, a parish in the hundred of CORBY, county of NORTHAMPTON, 2 miles (S. W.byW.) from Rockingham, containing, with the township of Middleton, 839 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at £23. 7. 3,, and in the patronage of the Principal and Fellows of Brasenose College, Oxford. The church is dedicated to "St. Mary Magdalene.' There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. In an ancient record it is stated that a house for leprous persons existed here iri the time of Henry III.
