CRANAGE, a township in that part of the parish of SANDBACH which is in the hundred of NORTHWICH, county palatine of CHESTER, 3 miles (E.N.E.) from Middlewich, containing 433 inhabitants. Thomas Hall, Esq. erected two, schoolrooms here, one of which he endowed with £10 per annum, for ten boys^ and the other with £.4 per annum, for ten girls, all. of them being partly clothed. .In the reign of Henry VI. a bridge of stone was erected across the river Dane, at the expense of Sir John Nedham, but a few years ago it gave place to the present structure, which is built of wood, from a. design by Mr. Harrison, of Chester.
