CROCKERNE-PILL, a hamlet in the parish of EASTON in GORDANO, hundred of PORTBURY, county of SOMERSET, 5 miles (N. W-) from Bristol. The population is returned with the parish. This hamlet, which had its rise in the seventeenth century, is chiefly.inhabited by mariners, who are principally engaged in piloting vessels to and from Bristol, and down the channel, under the regulations of the company of merchant adventurers of Bristol: it .is situated on the banks of the Avon, near the junction of that river with the Severn.
