CROXTON, a parish in the eastern division of the wapentake of YARBOROUGH, parts of LINDSEY, county of LINCOLN, 7 miles (N. E. by E.) from Glandford- Bridge, containing, with the hamlet of Yarborough, 87 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £8. 14. 2., and in the patronage of the Grown. The church is dedicated to St. John the Evangelist, Upon a lofty eminence about half a mile westward of the village are remains of a large intrenchment, called Yarborough Camp, supposed to be a Roman work, from the coins found in the area and near its site.
