CUSTHORPE, a hamlet in that part of the parish of
WEST-ACRE which is in the southern division of the
hundred of GREENHOE, county of NORFOLK, 4$ miles
(N. W.) from Swaffham. The population is returned
with the parish. Here are the ruins of a chapel, dedicated
to St. Thomas a Becket, supposed to have been
founded by the monks of Westacre priory, who received
permission to hold a fair annually on the 7th
of July: connected with it was a house, the residence of
a custos and one or two monks, who were engaged in
serving the chapel.
