DENTON, a parish in the hundred of EARSHAM, county of NORFOLK, 4 miles (N.E.) from Harleston, containing 601 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Norfolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £24, and in the patronage of the Archbishop of Canterbury, who appoints a fellow, or one who has been a fellow, of Merton College, Oxford. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, stands on a high hill, at the foot of which is the church-yard and village.
