DENTON, a parish in the hundred of BISHOPSTONE, rape of PEVENSEY, county of SUSSEX, 1 mile (N.E.) from Newhaven, containing 133 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Lewes, and diocese of Chichester, rated in the king's books at £14. 19. 8., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Crown. The church, dedicated to St. Leonard, is partly in the early English style, and partly in the decorated style of architecture. Denton is within the liberty of the duchy of Lancaster.
