DIXON, or DICKLESTON, a hamlet in the parish of ALDERTON, upper division of the hundred of TEWKESBURY, county of GLOUCESTER, 4 miles (W.N.W.) from Winchcombe. The population is returned with the parish. This place in the reign of Edward III. was the seat of the Dicklestons; near the mansion was formerly a chapel, dedicated to All Saints, but it has been long since desecrated. Vestiges of an ancient intrenchment are discernible in the neighbourhood.
