DOWNHAM-SANTON, a parish in the hundred of
LACKFORD, county of SUFFOLK, 2 miles (E.N.E.) from
Brandon-Ferry, containing 79 inhabitants. The living
is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Sudbury.
and diocese of Norwich, endowed with £200 private
benefaction, and £ 1200 royal bounty. The Earl of Ca-
dogan was patron in 1815. The church is dedicated to
St. Mary. The navigable river Ouse flows on the northern
side of this parish, which suffered greatly in the seventeenth
century by the sands that overspread the neighbourhood.
