DUNSLEY, a township, joint with Newholm, in the
parish of WHITBY, liberty of WHITBY-STRAND, North
riding of the county of YORK, 3 miles (W.) from Whitby,
containing 259 inhabitants. From this place a Roman
road, now called Wade's causeway, runs for many miles
over the moors to York; it is paved with flints, and has
been traced twelve feet wide and three high, with a
defaced milliary on it.
