EARL-SHILTON, a chapelry in the parish of KIRKBY-MALLORY, hundred of SPARKENHOE, county of LEICESTER, 3 miles (N. E.) from Hinckley, containing 1771 inhabitants. The chapel is dedicated to St. Peter. There is a place of worship for Independents. This place was formerly distinguished by its Norman castle, now entirely destroyed, the site being denoted only by a mount, and a place called the Castleyard, or Hall-yard.
