EAST-CHURCH, a parish in the liberty of ISLE-of-SHEPPEY, lathe of SCRAY, county of KENT, 5 miles (E. by S.) from Queenborough, containing 705 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Canterbury, rated in the king's books at £13. 6. 8., and in the patronage of Miles Barton, Esq. The church, which is dedicated to All Saints, is a spacious and handsome embattled edifice, formerly belonging to the convent of Boxley. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. East-Church takes its name from being situated to the east of the parish of Minster. There is a free school, with a small endowment: a fair for toys is held on Holy-Thursday. Many petrified fossils, supposed to be antediluvian, have been found upon the sea-shore.
