ELKSLEY, a parish in the Hatfield division of the
wapentake of BASSETLAW, county of NOTTINGHAM, 4
miles (N. W.) from Tuxford, containing 347 inhabitants.
The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry
of Nottingham, and diocese of York, rated in the king's
books at £3. 16. 0., endowed with £200 royal bounty
and in the patronage of the Duke of Newcastle. The
church is dedicated to St. Giles.
