ELSTEAD, a parish in the hundred of FARNHAM, county of SURREY, 4 miles (W.) from Godalming, containing 608 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Surrey, and diocese of Winchester, endowed with £200 royal bounty, and £1400 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of Robert Colmer, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. James. The navigable river Wey runs through the parish.
