EMPSHOT, a parish in the hundred of SELBORNE, ALTON
(North) division of the county of SOUTHAMPTON,
5 miles (N.) from Petersfield, containing 139 inha-
bitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the
archdeaconry and diocese of Winchester, rated in the
king's books at £5. 16. 5., endowed with £400 private
benefaction, and £400 royal bounty, and in the patronage
of Mrs. Butler. The church is dedicated to the
Holy Rood.
