EXMINSTER, a parish in the hundred of EXMINSTER, county of DEVON, 5 miles (S. E. by S.) from Exeter, containing 928 inhabitants. Theliving is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £ 12, and in the patronage of the Governors of Crediton Church Corporation Trust. The church is dedicated to St. Martin. There is a charity school partly supported by the governors, and partly by subscription. At this village, which is very pleasantly situated on the west side of the river Exe, a fair is held on the first Thursday in May. The Exeter canal runs through the parish.
