EXTON, a parish in the hundred of ALSTOE, county of RUTLAND, 5 miles (N.E. by E.) from Oakham, containing 735 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, with the rectory of Horn united, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at £ 8.7 8., endowed with £ 200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty. Sir Gerard Noel Noel, Bart, was patron in 1817. The church, dedi-. cated to St. Peter and St. Paul, is principally in the later English style, with a handsome steeple. There is an endowed school, founded in 1702 by Henry Forster, Esq., of which the justices of the peace for the county are patrons.
