FAIRBURN, a township in the parish of LEDSHAM,
upper division of the wapentake of BARKSTONE-ASH,
West riding of the county of YORK, 2 miles (N, N. W.)
from Ferry-Bridge, containing 426 inhabitants. It is
situated on the banks of the Aire, and abounds with
limestone. A cut has been made from a canal in the
vicinity, and a tunnel is about to be constructed under
the village, for the greater convenience of the limeworks.
