FARNWORTH, a chapelry in the parish of PRESCOT, hundred of WEST-DERBY, county palatine of LANCASTER, 5 miles (W.) from Warrington. The population is returned with the parish. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, endoweg . with £200 private benefaction, £200 royal bounty, and £ 600 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of the Vicar of Prescot, The chapel is dedicated to St. Wilfrid. There is a commodious free grammar school, in which about twenty boys are instructed in English and the classics; the annual income, arising from various donations and bequests, is about £ 60.
