FAWDON, a township in that part of the parish of
GOSFORTH which is in the western division of CASTLE
ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND, 4 miles (N.N.W..)
from Newcastle upon Tyne, containing 747 inhabitants.
In 1801, there were only twenty-six inhabitants, the
increase being caused by the establishment of extensive
collieries.
