FENWICK, a township in the parish of STAMFORDHAM,
north-eastern division of TINDALE ward, county
of NORTHUMBERLAND, 13 miles (N.W. by W.) from
Newcastle upon Tyne, containing 76 inhabitants. Fenwick
tower, which was the seat of the ancient family of
the same name, has long been in ruins; in pulling down
a part of it in 1775, two hundred and twenty-six gold
nobles of the reigns of Edward III., Richard II., and
David II. of Scotland, were found.
