GAYTON, a parish in the hundred of TOWCESTER,
county of NORTHAMPTON, 4 miles (N. by E.) from
Towcester, containing 389 inhabitants. The living is
a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and
diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at
£15. 5. 2., and in the patronage of the Master and
Fellows of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. The
church is dedicated to St. Mary. The Grand Junction
canal runs through this parish.
