GOAT, a township, joint with Papcastle, in the parish
of BRIDEKIRK, ALLERDALE ward below Darwent
county of CUMBERLAND, containing 384 inhabitants.
The village is connected with the town of Cockerm outh
by a stone bridge across the Darwent: the knights of
the shire are elected on a plot of ground within its
limits; and here are some corn-mills.
