GOATHURST, a parish in the hundred of ANDERSFIELD, county of SOMERSET, 3 miles (S.W. by W.) from Bridg-water, containing 342 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Taunton, arid diocese of Bath and Wells, rated in the king's books at £9. 10.7., and in the patronage of C.H.K.Tynte, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. Edward, contains a handsome monument to the memory of Sir C. Tynte, who sat as knight of the shire in five successive parliaments; a neat chapel serves as the mausoleum of this ancient family. The memory of a religious house is still preserved in the names Chantry and Sanctuary which distinguish parts of the aprish.
