GONALDSTON, a parish in the southern division of the wapentake of THURGARTON, county of NOTTINGHAM, 4 miles (S.S.W.) from Southwell, containing 96 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Nottingham, and diocese of York, rated in the king's books at £7. 19. 2. W. Leland, Esq. was patron in 1811. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence. There is an endowed school for six boys, also an ancient hospital, called the Spittle, founded by William Heriz in the reign of Henry III.
