GWINEAR, a parish in the hundred of PENWITH, county of CORNWALL, 7 miles (S. W. by w.) from Redruth, containing 2383 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Cornwall, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £12, and in the patronage of the Bishop of Exeter. The church is dedicated to St.Winnear. There are several copper mines in the parish, of which the principal are Herland, Weal Alfred, and Weal Hope; the first produces also native silver.
