HADHAM (MUCH), a parish in the hundred of EDWINSTREE, county of HERTFORD, 4 miles (W. S.W.) from Bishop's Stortford, containing 1208 inhabitants. The living is a rectory with Little Hadham, within the peculiar jurisdiction of the Commissary of Essex and Herts, concurrently with the Consistorial Court of the Bishop of London, rated in the king's books at £66.13. 4., and in the patronage of the Bishop of London. The. church is dedicated to St. Andrew. The Independents have a place of worship here. There is a small endowment for the education of six boys and six girls. Here are the remains of a palace belonging to the Bishops of London, now a private residence. Dr. John Owen, an eminent non-conformist divine, was born at this place in 1616.
