HALE (GREAT), a parish in the wapentake of ASWARDHURN, parts of KESTEVEN, county of LINCOLN, 5 miles (E.S.E.) from Sleaford, containing, with the township of Little Hale, 863 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £8.6., and in the patronage of the Crown. The church,dedicated to St. John the Baptist, is principally in the decorated style of English architecture.
