HALSE, a parish in the hundred of WILLITON-and-FREEMANNERS, though locally in the western division of the hundred of Ringsbury, county of SOMERSET, 4 miles (E.) from Wiveliscombe, containing 447 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Taunton, and diocese of Bath and Wells, rated in the king's books at £5. 19. 7., endowed with £600 private benefaction, £400 royal bounty, and £300 parliamentary grant. Sir J. Langham, Bart, was patron in 1793. The church is dedicated to St. James.
