HANNINGTON, a parish in the hundred of ORLINGBURY, county of NORTHAMPTON, 6 miles (N. N. W.) fromWellingborough, containing 177 inhabitants. The living is a rectory consolidated with that of Walgrave, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at £10. 11. 3., and in the patronage of the Bishop of Lincoln. The church is dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul. Dr. Francis Godwin, successively Bishop of Llandaff and Hereford, a distinguished antiquary and biographer, was born, in 1561, in this parish, of which his father was rector, and afterwards Bishop of Bath and Wells; he died in 1633.
