HARTWELL, a parish in the hundred of CLELEY, county of NORTHAMPTON, 7 miles (S. by E.) from Northampton, containing, exclusively of a portion of the hamlet of Old Stratford which is in this parish, 432 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, endowed with £200 private benefaction, £600 royal bounty, and £200 parliamentary grant. Colonel P. Skeene was patron in 1791. The church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist.
