HAWSTEAD, a parish in the hundred of THINGOE, county of SUFFOLK, 4 miles (S.) from Bury-St. Ed-, mund's, containing, with the extra-parochial liberty of Hardwick, 404 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Sudbury, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £11. 16. 10., and m the patronage of Mrs. Gosling. The church is dedicated to All Saints. At Hawstead Place, now a farm-house, Queen Elizabeth was entertained in one of her progresses.
