HAXEY, a parish in the western division of the wapentake of MANLEY, parts of LINDSEY, county of LINCOLN, 8 miles (N.N.W.) from Gainsborough, containing 1888 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Stow, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the Whg's books at £20.17. 8., and in the patronage of the Archbishop of York. The church, dedicated to St. Nicholas, is in the later style of English architecture, with a chancel of brick; on the north side of the nave is a chapel, separated from the aisle by a handsome carved oak screen. There is a place of worship forWesleyan Methodists.
