HEALING, a parish in the wapentake of BRADLEYHAVERSTOE, parts of LINDSEY, county of LINCOLN, 5 miles (W.) from Great Grimsby, containing 94 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £ 6. 4. 2. The Rev. R. Parkinson was patron in 1793. The church is dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul. The name of this place is supposed to be derived from the healing or medicinal properties of two mineral springs, the water of which is impregnated with iron and sulphur; notwithstanding their propinquity, being only about a yard apart, their properties are different, one being used for bathing, and the other internally, in cutaneous diseases.
