HEMPSTEAD, a parish in the hundred of HAPPING, county of NORFOLK, 8 miles (E. by S.) from North Walsham, containing, with the parish of Eccles, 212 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, with the rectories of Eccles and Lessingham, in the archdeaconry of Norfolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £9, 6. 8., and in the patronage of the Provost and Fellows of King's College, Cambridge. The church is dedicated to St. Andrew.
