HETT, a township in the parish of MERRINGTON,
south-eastern division of DARLINGTON ward, county
palatine of DURHAM, 5 miles (S. by E.) from Durham,
containing 233 inhabitants. There is a paper-mill about
a mile eastward from the village, also a good freestone
quarry at Broom hill.
