HETTON-le-HOLE, a township in the parish of HouGHTON le SPRING, northern division of EASINGTON ward, county palatine of DURHAM, 6 miles (N. E. byE.) from Durham, containing 919 inhabitants. Here are places of worship for Baptists, Kilhamites, and Primitive and Wesleyan Methodists. Extensive mines of coal are worked in the vicinity. In a field on the right-hand side of the road from Eppleton to Hetton is a tumulus, consisting of a collection of small stones, at the top of which is a small oblong cavity, called the Fairies Cradle.
