HITCHENDEN, or HUGHENDEN, a parish in the hundred of DESBOROUGH, county of BUCKINGHAM, 1 mile (N.) from High Wycombe, containing, with a portion of the liberty of Brands-Fee, which is in this parish, 1247 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Buckingham, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £ 8. 17. 6., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of J. Norris, Esq. and others. The church, dedicated to St. Michael, is partly of Norman architecture, and has a curious font. Catherine Pye, in 1713, conveyed certain property towards the endowment of a school.
