HOCKWORTHY, a parish in the hundred of
BAMPTON, county of DEVON, 6 miles (E. S. E.) from
Bampton, containing 354 inhabitants. The living is a
discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of
Exeter, rated in the king's books at £7. 6. 8., and in the
patronage of - Comyns, Esq. A considerable traffic in
lime is carried on in the parish, which abounds with
excellent limestone.
