HOGHTON, a chapelry in the parish and hundred of LEYLAND, county palatine of LANCASTER, 5 miles (S. E. by E.) from Preston, containing %111 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, endowed with £1600 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of the Vicar of Leyland. A school, endowed by Sir Charles Hoghton with £26 per annum, is further supported by subscription, and conducted on the National system.
