HOLKER (UPPER), a township in the parish of
CARTMEL, hundred of LONSDALE, north of the sands,
county palatine of LANCASTER, 1 mile (N.by W.) from
Cartmel, containing 1120 inhabitants. George Bigland,
in 1685, devised lands which produce £30 a year, for
the support of a school.
