HOPTON, a liberty, joint with Coton, in that part of
the parish of ST-MARY-LICHFIELD, which is in the
southern division of the hundred of PIREHILL, county
of STAFFORD, 2 miles (N.E. by N.) from Stafford, con-
taining 517 inhabitants. There is a lunatic asylum
within the liberty, containing upwards of one hundred
patients.
