ITCHIN-ABBAS, a parish in the hundred of BOUNTISBOROUGH, Fawley division of the county of SOUTHAMPTON, 3 miles (W. N. W.) from New Alresford, containing 254 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Winchester, rated in the king's books at £14. 1. 65., and in the patronage of the Rev. Robert Wright: there is also a sinecure prebend, rated at £4. 6. 8., and in the. gift of the Crown. The church is dedicated to St. John. The river Itchin runs through the parish. Nathaniel Bailey, in 1823, .gave the interest of £400 three per cents, for teaching six boys and six girls. The foundations of an old abbey may still be traced; part of it has been converted into a private mansion.
