JACOBSTOW, a parish in the hundred of STRATTON, county of CORNWALL, 8 miles (S. S. "W.) from Stratton, containing 571 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Cornwall, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £ 19, and in the patronage of the Earl of St, Germans. The church is dedicated to St. James. Degory Wheare, the first Camden Professor of History at Oxford, and author of a Treatise on the Method of Studying History, was born here in 1573.
