KINGSTON-upon-SOAR, a parish in the southern division of the wapentake of RUSHCLIFFE, county of NOTTINGHAM, 1 mile (W. S. W.) from Kegworth, containing 166 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed to the vicarage of Ratcliffe upon Soar, in the archdeaconry and diocese of York, endowed with £1000 royal bounty. William Strutt, and William Harrison, Esqrs. were patron in 1827. The church is dedicated to St. Wilfrid: the doorway of the western porch is Norman, and the east end is in the latter style of English architecture, built for the reception of a monument of uncommon splendour to one of the Babyngton family, the remains of whose ancient mansion are still visible in the neighbourhood.
