KIRKBY (SOUTH), a parish in the upper division of the wapentake of OSGOLDCROSS, West riding of the county of YORK, comprising the townships of North Elmsall, South Elmsall, South Kirkby, and Shelbrooke, and containing 1314 inhabitants, of which number, 633 are in the township of South Kirkby, 85 miles (S.) from Pontefract. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of York, rated in the king's books at £15. 10. 2. The Rev. James Allott was patron in1813. The church is dedicated to All Saints.
